ListenOut Exclusive: We Speak to Pearl Aday, Daughter of Meat Loaf and Wife of Scott Ian (Anthrax) About PEARL's Tour and Latest AlbumListenOut - 5th Aug 10 at 2:13PM (Not rated yet) | |
We teamed up with Fashion Capital at Sonisphere Festival 2010 and spoke with Pearl Aday, daughter of legendary rock musician Meat Loaf and wife of Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. She currently fronts the upcoming rock band 'PEARL'. You recently released your debut album 'Little Immaculate White Fox' in Europe - how well has it been received? "It's getting a really good response - people are really enjoying it, even after not really knowing what to expect. We've been getting some really good feedback from everybody." What's the story behind Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy playing drums with you this year? "Unfortunately our original drummer quit the band recently. We've got some US dates starting August 12th in LA, and generously Andy Hurley is going to step in and play those shows with us. He's an ace drummer and an ace guy so it's going to be great." Who are your main musical influences? "I grew up with and draw from a lot of classic rock. Bands like The Rolling Stones and ACDC have had a big influence on me." What has it been like growing up with Meat Loaf and the whole rock scene? "It all seems normal to me as it's all I know. I mean what's it like to have a dad who's a heart sergeon or a policeman? For me it's normal - it's the way I grew up. But I've got to travel a lot throughout my life so it's been great." Did he help you push yourself as a musician? "He was supportive - he didn't push me in any direction though, he let me figure it out. Just because your parent is a singer or actor doesn't always mean that you want become one too - as some of my friends with famous parents have shown - but for me it's something I've always wanted to do. Being able to watch my dad perform all my life has certainly been a great help." Who are you looking forward to seeing at Sonisphere this year? "Rammstein, and Motley Crue - I used to work with Motley so I'm excited to see them. Iggy and the Stooges as well, and Corey Taylor - I love them." How long are you over here in the UK? "We leave tomorrow. We were here for the Kerrang! Awards as Scott (Ian) and Corey (Taylor) on Thursday, today we're here and I fly back tomorrow. Athough Anthrax are going on to play the other Sonisphere festivals abroad." What advice would you give to unsigned and up-and-coming bands to help get their name out there? "Just keep pushing because it's really difficult for up-and-coming bands, myself included. The music business has really changed recently with the internet and iTunes so it's very single-driven not album-driven anymore. You have to have a thick skin because not everyone is going to like what you do and they're going to make that known, but that's fine - you can't please everybody. But a lot of people will so keep them in mind, play for them and stay positive." ![]() |
